The greatest assets of any organization are its employees. In fact, the success of every organization is directly proportional to the hard work put in by every employee.
However, no employee can work alone; every employee depends on their colleagues to contribute efficiently to the organization.
Employees need to assist and obtain help from each of their workmates to help accomplish the assigned tasks.
It is a proven fact that although skilled people are required to help improve the performance of an organization, it is proper teamwork and team spirit, which can better productivity and generate excellent results.
Today, organizations utilize the power of teamwork to provide support mechanisms within their offices, improve output and provide healthy competition. Within sales teams, enormous competition among employees and the subsequent pressure results in better output as well as greater profits.
Interdependent teams built by individuals with common specialization, preference, goal, attitude and taste, and headed by self-driven and dedicated leaders can make things happen better than anything else in an organization.
The outcomes often come out much better when employees work in teams rather than individually.
The Human Paradigm In Team Building
The emergence of a new, more human, paradigm has made the world experience a different revolutionary change.
In the old paradigm, individuals were merely workers and made minimum contributions to an organization’s output. However, the new paradigm has made organizations realize that its human potential is what makes the organization into what it is.
The human potential is what creates the culture, the leadership and ultimately the satisfaction. Working together, the human paradigm is people and individuals working closely together and wearing a myriad of “expert” hats to fulfil commitments.
The result is increasing relevancy and competitiveness. The responsibility is on the organization to foster and nurture this new paradigm to create a cohesive atmosphere and feeling of solidarity among its employees to enable them to give their best.
Team building can be pursued through a variety of activities and practises ranging from simple bonding activities to complex simulations and team building mega-retreats.
Organizing events meant to encourage camaraderie and enhance ambiance among employees and workers not only help bring them together, but also help build their trust and team spirit, eliminate all doubts they may have and strengthen the bond between different groups of people within the organization.
However, the globalization of different sectors of the economy means that competition is attaining its peak. This implies that more quality and result-oriented activities are required to help build effective teams for the fulfilment of organizational goals.
The Impact of Effective Team Building
The main objective for a leader building a team is to improve how the team works together and increase the team’s understanding of its own dynamics and culture. It is worth noting that working as a group is completely different from working as a team.
Whereas the former involves individual accountability, the latter incorporates group accountability and results in a more collective work product.
Organizations that have been able to employ the teamwork approach effectively have realized a number of advantages including, but not limited to:
Increased flexibility in abilities and skills
Easier organizational change
Higher outcome than work groups with individual mindset
Higher individual and team improvement and development
Accomplishment of more beneficial tasks as focus is placed entirely on group goals
Improved array of team building goals such as communication, collaboration and improved flexible and creative thinking.
An organization that is committed to a new human paradigm may be served well by a leadership coach to create and generate effective results through teamwork.
